Quien es Fabian

Fabian J. García (He/Him/His) is a lighting designer for theatre, dance, and events, currently operating out of Oklahoma City. Born in Texas to Mexican immigrant parents, he is proud to be a Mexican American designer who strives to push the boundaries of his work by bringing his heritage and experience to every process. It’s Fabian’s core belief that voice matters when telling a story, and as we grow to respect every voice, we can best embody the spirit of the stories of yesterday, today, and those still to be told.

Fabian currently serves as the Resident Lighting Designer and Master Electrician at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, bringing to life designs for both their professional equity season and their academic student performances through Lyric’s Thelma Gaylord Academy. At Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Fabian designs and implements for a multitude of different venues, ranging from studio spaces to 2,500 seat performance halls. In Oklahoma City, he also serves as the Resident Lighting Designer for the Oklahoma Philharmonic POPS series.

It’s Fabian’s joy to look at each project through a collaborative lens, emphasizing the teamwork between not only him and his lighting team, but also the creative partnership with directors, music directors, choreographers, and other design staff. In an educational setting, Fabian welcomes young performers and technicians into the creative process, spreading the joy and power of stage lighting through internships, volunteer opportunities, workshops, and mentorship. His work is known throughout the central south region states.

Fabian holds a Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts from West Texas A&M University in Technical Theatre.

When not designing lights, Fabian can be found enjoying video games, board games, and seeking out local cuisine wherever his work might take him. He’s currently looking forward to the release of Pokémon Violet and Scarlet, a franchise he’s enjoyed and been inspired by since his youth.

Gotta light ‘em all!
